High Moon Studios is already tweaking balance and banning cheaters based on GameStop preview feedback. Takara’s Arms Micron AM-16 Jet Vehicon may be a Takara exclusive, since its copyright stamp lists only Tomy, as with AM-12 Breakdown. Takara has announced Asia Premium Series AP-501 Striker Optimus Prime, a Revenge of the Fallen leader remold due in late September or early October. A Generations China import Voyager Power Dive, a Highbrow redeco with a new head, reaches Toys R Us in October. Mastermind Creations shows new looks at its Hearts of Steel Starscream. Brian’s Beef With FedEx
Brian got his Hasbro Toy Shop SDCC Cliffjumper without trouble, but FedEx required an in-person signature for the HISS Tank. After three attempts, the driver tore up his signed note. FedEx offered pickup at a facility an hour away, open only during his work hours or Saturday mornings. A week of emails, calls and a canned Twitter reply later, Hasbro Toy Shop is now working with FedEx. Exvee jokes that the HISS Tank will be back on Hasbro Toy Shop in a couple of weeks.
Fall of Cybertron Demo Impressions
Rob has mostly played the multiplayer, which feels very much like War for Cybertron. He wishes the demo showed off more of what’s new. Brian calls the single-player campaign okay, a Gears of War clone, though Chris Triplett reminded him how far Transformers games have come. Rob will review Mystery of Convoy for Review a Bad Game Day on August 8. The crew calls the Armada game good for what it is and the PlayStation 2 G1 game awful. They say Fall of Cybertron is basically The War Within as a video game.
What Does G1 Even Mean Anymore?
Brian says Classics, Generations, Masterpiece and Asian exclusives have redone G1 so many times that he no longer knows what the term means. One host defines G1 as the fiction and toys from about 1984 to 1991, with everything since being adaptations. The crew notes Transformers has rarely gone dormant. They also discuss Japan’s Encore reissues, from Predaking and Sixshot to Bruticus, and wish for Encore Overlord, Star Saber, Metrotitan and the Throttlebots.
Rescue Center: You’ve Been Squelched
Aimee and Nicole review the Rescue Bots episode You’ve Been Squelched, which they call Rescue Bots meets The Blob meets Flubber. Doc Greene’s space goo absorbs squirrels, Mr. Petty Paws, Chase and the Chief. Graham weighs an offer from a school for brainiacs. One reviewer is crushed that Cody gets a hoverboard while real life still has none. They praise Chase’s best lines, the lesson on direct and alternating current, and the soundtrack.
Comic News: Regeneration One Issue 82
Brian is at best neutral on Regeneration One issue 82. His main problem is that it is a separate continuity whose characters, such as Kup and Ultra Magnus, look like their IDW counterparts, so the stories blur together. He finds Simon Furman’s writing stiff and melodramatic, especially Megatron’s dialogue. He likes the homages to the original U.S. comic, especially the last page, and will keep buying. He says More Than Meets the Eye is far better.
Transformers Rewind: Web World
Brian’s favorite episode, the Season 3 Web World, sends Galvatron to the asylum planet Torkulon for therapy at Cyclonus’ urging. Every treatment fails, and Galvatron’s madness infects the living planet’s network when it tries to lobotomize him. The crew notes it was written by Len Wein, co-creator of Wolverine and Swamp Thing. They praise it as a real character piece on Galvatron’s insanity. Next week’s Rewind is City of Steel, which Brian calls the worst Transformers episode, worse than Carnage in C-Minor.
