Combiner Wars Leader Class Megatron Hits US Stores
Megatron is showing up at Toys R Us with optional stickers, including Autobot logos for both modes. The crew dislikes the opaque white chest stickers. They wish Hasbro had used foil or a flip-around chest plate. [Source: not found]
In-Hand Photos of the Wave 2 Stunticons
Photos show the wave 2 Deluxe Stunticons and a complete Menasor without Blackjack. One host’s favorite is Dead End. Another notes that Breakdown’s spare limb fits his backpack like the box art’s pipes, hinting at a Sunstreaker retool. The Leader Class assortment page shows a Starscream bio, confirming the figure. Around TFormers
Rob recaps an AdWeek article on Hasbro’s TV strategy. It explains why Hasbro sold most of the Hub back to Discovery and is now focusing on apps. Exvee posts his last review of Drift: Empire of Stone. Age of Extinction won Michael Bay a Razzie for worst director. The crew defends Kelsey Grammer as the film’s highlight.
This Week in History
Twenty-eight years ago this week, “The Return of Optimus Prime” Parts 1 and 2 aired on back-to-back days. Brian calls it the most important event of his childhood. The crew notes that “Dark Awakening” ends with Optimus Prime destroyed, yet he comes back in perfect shape.
Being Awesome
Rob Springer debuts his new segment, replacing the listener Q&A. This week he celebrates the fan-built combiner vote in the Transformers app, which has leaned Autobot and Sea of Rust so far. He hopes for a mixed team of vehicles and characters. He remembers filling out a magazine-size survey at OTFCC 2004 to earn an Energon weapon.
Robots in Disguise Episodes 1 to 3: Spoiler-Free Review
The crew agrees Robots in Disguise is bright, fun and easy to watch. The humans work better than Prime’s, and Bumblebee’s frustration as a new leader is a highlight. Strongarm is more likable than expected, and Fixit is both annoying and endearing. Brian, the only one who has seen episode 3, calls Steeljaw his favorite. He likes it more than the first three episodes of Animated or Beast Wars. One host notes it has the same creative team as Transformers Prime, adjusted for a slightly younger audience. Another misses a full opening theme.
What We Got This Week
Exvee finally got Generations Motormaster. About half the parts are new compared to Combiner Wars Optimus Prime, but it works the same way. He finds both head sculpts dull and says fans will put up with the toy because it forms Menasor.
Don picked up a Leader Class Megatron at Toys R Us. He saw Armada Megatron too and says it is not as hideous in person, though still not a good toy.
Diecast got Fans Project’s Madlaw, a not-Quickswitch about a Voyager and a half in size. He also got Fenrir, a not-Sinnertwin, and calls that set possibly the best combiner of the last three years.
