Goldimus Prime reviews the Beast Machines Dinobot Triceradon on this April 10, 2000 Radio Free Cybertron. Brian Kilby, under the weather, looks back at lighter moments from the show, including an interview with Picard42 of Transformers World’s Worst. John DeLuna’s ATT Buzz covers April Fool’s on the newsgroup. Brian also reviews Gears in a sentence and pans the latest Beast Machines episode.
ATT Buzz
John DeLuna had computer problems this week but kept up with alt.toys.transformers through Remarq and Deja.com. He notes Deja.com lets you lose yourself in three-year-old posts about Cheetor being the new Hot Rod. The newsgroup survived another April Fool’s, with a few fake toy sightings, one dirty prank, and a death and resurrection inside 48 hours. John jokes about Wheelie hiding in his room after last year’s Grimlock fiasco. An off-topic relationships thread drew a big response, and John closes with his own advice: put out positive vibes, just like Optimus Primal. [Source: alt.toys.transformers]
Zob Trivia
This week’s Zob Trivia question asks how many times Soundwave has laughed. The answer is twice, in “Quest for Survival” and “Auto-Bop.”
From the Archives
Brian replays lighter moments from past shows, introduced as part of Turin’s original segment from last year. One bit counts down the top eight reasons Optimus Minor doesn’t exist, ending with “Who’s Optimus Minor?” Another recounts a dream of Beast Wars where the crew scans cheeses instead of animals, giving us Cheddar and Jacktrap.
Interview: Picard42 of Transformers World’s Worst
Picard42 explains that Transformers World’s Worst started two years ago as a parody of Warren Feld’s G1 and Beast Wars crossover saga. He and Walky Hooks wrote it in the TFU IRC channel, and he’s still writing it. The site also has a newspaper, screenshots, Ask a Transformer, a drinking game, a BotCon photo album and fanfic universe entries. He has mixed feelings about people posting World’s Worst fanfics without approval. His favorite released story is the movie. In the five questions, he picks Beast Wars to watch, the G1 cartoon to write, and Blaster as his favorite character. His favorite toy is a toss-up between Transmetal Cheetor and Megatron, and he would send Nightscream to suffer eternally.
Trivia
Brian plays a new Name That Clip, which is also posted on the website.
Toy Review: Beast Machines Triceradon
Goldimus Prime continues his Dinobot reviews with Triceradon, a brown Triceratops listed as second-in-command of the Dinobots. The beast mode has detailed scale and skinfold molding, though the head tends to slide around. A camouflage mode makes the tongue pop out and the eyes roll back, and side panels open to show ribs and muscle. Goldimus notes the muscle patterns on the robot feet are now blue instead of red. The transformation is frustrating but not as bad as Striker’s. The robot mode recalls original T-Rex Megatron, with a dinosaur-head arm and a tail that becomes a missile launcher firing about four feet. He has 14 points of articulation and stands four and a half inches tall. Goldimus says he’s worth $10 compared with Beast Wars Neo import prices. Scores: robot mode 7, beast mode 8, gimmicks 7, overall 8 out of 10.
Toy Review: Gears
Brian got Gears a few days ago and sums him up: he’s red, he’s blue, he’s a minibot.
Beast Machines: Spark War Part 3
With a spoiler warning, Brian calls the latest episode a disappointment after an excellent season two so far. Megatron absorbs sparks and kills Noble, and Nightscream retaliates with his scream and kills Megatron. Brian says the episode wasn’t bad until a poorly done ending, and gives it about a three. He promises a big announcement on Friday and possibly the next part of Transformers: The Movie.
