Transformers Generations Wave 1 is hitting Toys R Us on this June 25, 2010 pre-BotCon Radio Free Cybertron. JD Church hosts with Ender, Exvee, John DeLuna and guest RAC from FigureReviews.com. The crew covers Takara’s event-exclusive repaints, the BotCon customizing class G2 Sideswipe and Masterpiece Grimlock’s expected date. Ender reviews War for Cybertron and takes aim at the Transformers: Exodus novel, and the crew predicts what Hasbro will show at BotCon.

Generations Wave 1 Hits Toys R Us
Transformers Generations Wave 1 is turning up at Toys R Us, with sightings in New York, Maryland and Texas. The wave includes War for Cybertron Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, plus Thrust and Drift. One host is happy to see Thrust, since it saves fans from paying $80 or $90 for the Henkei version or $230 for the BotCon one. Another would rather go without both. [Source: not found]
Masterpiece Grimlock Expected Around July 1
Masterpiece Grimlock, a Toys R Us exclusive, is expected around July 1. The crew notes any street date depends on stores actually getting stock. One host says Toys R Us has been courting adult collectors with pre-orders and collector aisles. [Source: not found]
Animated Toys Still Under Glass
Ender is annoyed that he will look at the same Transformers Animated previews under glass at BotCon that he saw last year and still can’t buy. He expects Hot Rod and Blackout to show up again with a straight-faced new release date.
Transformers: Exodus Novel Explains a Silent Bumblebee
A blurb for Transformers: Exodus, a novel tied to War for Cybertron, says the writer will explain why Bumblebee stops talking. Ender, who has played the whole game, calls War for Cybertron pure Sunbow cartoon continuity, right down to a blue Rumble. He points out that Bumblebee talks all the way through the game and the first G1 episode. He blames Hasbro’s push to make every story one continuity and tells Hasbro to enjoy its many universes. BotCon Customizing Class Gets G2 Sideswipe
The BotCon customizing class toy is a G2 Sideswipe in new plastic colors, which the crew wanted in the BotCon set or at retail. One host is confused, since new plastic colors are costly for a run of about 50, and the class has always used unpainted retail toys. He suspects it could preview a later release, as with Overkill and the Razorclaw-as-Rampage repaint. Another host says he is nearly the only reporter who covers the class. [Source: not found]
Takara Event-Exclusive Repaints
Takara has event-exclusive repaints on sale for about two days, with leftovers possibly going to eHobby. They include a white Animated Prowl, and Revenge of the Fallen Mindwipe and Skystalker repainted as G2 Dreadwing and Smokescreen. A third set is a clear Sons of Cybertron Classics Optimus Prime and Rodimus. One host wants the Dreadwing and Smokescreen set but knows he’ll never get it at a fair price. [Source: not found]
Prime Collector at the Dealer Room
One host, who owns more than 300 Optimus Primes, invites listeners to bring rare Primes to the RFC table at BotCon. He tells of a Prime shampoo bottle that still stinks and lives in its own case.
War for Cybertron Review
Ender calls the single-player campaign a Sunbow two-parter with great graphics. He says transformation is the game’s real innovation, giving players options like hitting enemies with a truck mid-firefight. In multiplayer, flying is well balanced, but invisible ceilings on several maps are an instant fail. Nods to the cartoon include Jetfire as Starscream’s friend, Omega Supreme and a level playing as the three original Seekers. He compares it to Star Wars games like TIE Fighter that were made as games rather than tie-ins. He says the demo shows none of what the game is like, and everyone should buy it.
What Hasbro Might Show at BotCon
The crew’s BotCon wish list starts with Classics Thundercracker to finish the jets, ideally in an accessible release. They understand fans wanting Jazz and Wheeljack to finish the Autobot cars. They expect to learn how big the Power Core Combiners line will be. John DeLuna thinks Transformers Prime could be the big surprise, since the show debuts in months with no toy leaks yet. One host notes an AllSpark suggestion of a Generations Blaster to pair with Darkmount.
RFC at BotCon
RFC plans semi-live field reports from BotCon, and John DeLuna is already at the Dolphin hotel. Listeners are asked to get a photo high-fiving Stan Bush, or Photoshop one, for a possible contest.
