Pictures are out of Encore 22, Twincast, due this month as a mass release. He comes with Stripes, an orange Ravage named for a Blaster cassette from an early Transformers: The Movie script draft. TF BBQ with Rob Springer: Power Core Combiners in Japan
Rob Springer responds to word that Takara may bring Power Core Combiners to Japan. He thinks the line failed in the US for lack of story and pricey five-packs. Takara could sell the commanders alone and the drones and Minicons as blind packs, which sell well in Japan. Unthemed drones would let kids mix and match combiners.
Comic News: Robots in Disguise #2
Aimee reports that solicits are out for More Than Meets the Eye #5 and Robots in Disguise #5, with great covers. Trades of Robots in Disguise and Autocracy arrive in July 2012. John Barber focuses Robots in Disguise #2 on Starscream, with an assassination plot, another death and the reveal of the shadowy figure from issue one. Aimee gives it a 9 out of 10.
Review: Bot Shots Starscream
Exvee’s figurereviews.com review covers Bot Shots Starscream, a super-deformed F-22 with big wheels and a spring transformation triggered by ramming it into something. The robot mode is a game piece, not an action figure. The game is rock, paper, scissors with sword, blaster and fist, with ties going to the higher number. At about $4, Exvee calls it addictive.
Brian loves his Bot Shots Sentinel Prime, even after breaking its spring during the show. He compares the line to Spy Changers and wishes they had pullback motors. He opens his Transformers Prime Wheeljack on air but won’t transform it without the instructions.
Review: Transformers Prime, Orion Pax Part 1
The season two opener splits the crew. Peter loves it, especially Soundwave opening the space bridge and Starscream’s return. Aimee liked it and says her kids are hooked. Brian calls the show well made but two-dimensional, with little nuance in the characters, and ranks it in the top five series while wanting better. One host calls it soulless, and the Autobots falling apart without Prime strikes the crew as forced. Another host answers that Animated took a season to win fans over too. Rob says the season one Blu-ray set looks stunning in HD, though the crew notes HD doesn’t add characters. The crew wonders whether Hasbro’s planning hamstrings the writers.
