With Combiner Wars wave two in hand, John DeLuna and Melllvarr review complete Superion and Menasor builds. Melllvarr prefers Superion, and John walks through Diecast’s fix for warped Superion antennae. Menasor proves better in hand than in photos, especially with the fan-preferred straight-leg setup. The pair end by eyeing the Protectobots, a possible Computron and Titan Class Devastator.
Air Raid Completes Superion
Melllvarr likes Air Raid’s movable wings and how action-figure-like all four Aerialbots are. He calls Superion his favorite of the two combiners and the new combining system surprisingly solid. Both run Alpha Bravo as the left arm, and Melllvarr is waiting on the Slingshot repaint for his original team. Melllvarr’s Superion antennae slope back only slightly. John’s were warped, so he used Diecast’s YouTube fix: remove the head’s single screw and scrape the gold paint from the antenna channel. Melllvarr finds Superion astoundingly poseable and does not mind the big hands.
The Stunticons and Menasor
Melllvarr names Dead End his favorite Stunticon and finds Breakdown blocky but growing on him. Offroad has arm articulation issues, though both hosts like him and the idea of a truck on the team. Melllvarr finds Menasor better than expected, especially in the fan-favored straight-leg setup. Blackjack falls off easily because the chest peg holes are weak. John uses a fan-invented setup with Blackjack doing the splits and gripping Motormaster’s chest pegs. That puts his Decepticon symbol upright, and he sees no stress marks so far. Neither can explain why Blackjack’s axe is not Menasor’s sword hilt.
Looking Ahead to the Protectobots
Melllvarr loves the in-hand Protectobot photos, especially a T4mers.com gallery of Hot Spot. He also likes First Aid and Streetwise, a retool of Dead End. Both expect Rook to lead to a new Combaticon. Melllvarr wants Battle Gaia and Guard City repaints, perhaps as a BotCon set and a subscription offering. He doubts Fun Publications would do two combiner teams in one year.
Computron, Devastator and Beyond
Computron is Melllvarr’s favorite Autobot combiner, and he has high hopes after Superion. Both would welcome beast teams like the Terrorcons. Melllvarr would like Devastator closer in scale to the other combiners, but accepts a Titan built from six construction vehicles. They float Predaking for retail, a Dinoking for San Diego Comic-Con and Piranacon as possible Titan-sized teams. Melllvarr may cancel his Perfect Effect torso upgrade preorder now that Menasor is in hand.
