With Toy Fair 2018 two weeks away, the crew makes its spoiler-free predictions, from Predaking and Optimus Primal to wishes for Seacons, Autobot Targetmasters and a Titan sped up to Toy Fair day. Hasbro files a trademark for Transformers BotBots, and UK listings point to a Stryker codename for the Bumblebee movie. Ocular Max shows an unofficial Vortex, and the crew asks if anyone needs another Bruticus. Plus Mech Planet’s Legends-scale Goldbug and a look back at the Energon cartoon’s premiere.
This Week in History
Fourteen years ago, the Transformers Energon cartoon premiered in the US on Cartoon Network. Brian gave up on it after about seven episodes, and one host is stuck partway through on Roku. The crew agrees the Energon toy line was great even though the show was not, with the combining Autobot deluxes holding up the worst.
Toy Fair 2018 Predictions
The crew records its predictions early to stay ahead of leaks. Brian expects mostly what leaked last year: Predaking, Optimus Primal, Elita-1 and Battletrap. One host notes that most of Power of the Primes Wave 3 already appeared at New York Comic Con.
One host wants the Seacons in every version, God Neptune colors included. Don hopes for G2 Dinobots, Darkwing and Dreadwind redone as Buster and Hydra, and Jazz and Inferno redecos as Ricochet, Artfire and Stepper. Others want new Autobot Targetmasters, and one host wants Hasbro to speed up the Titans, with Predaking available on Toy Fair day and Unicron by Christmas. The chat brings up Autobot X, and the crew adds Thunderclash, Skyquake and Dion. Diecast reminds everyone that Bumblebee movie toys should be there too.
Contest Winner
Brian gave away a sealed pair of Anker Soundbuds on Twitter, and the random winner is lonegamer78.
News
New Trademark Filed: Transformers BotBots
The filing covers toys and transforming figures only. One host guesses it is a small blind-bag collectible, maybe a successor to Alt-Modes. Brian, as always, wants Transformers Weebles. [Source: TFormers]
Sketches for Evolution Rodimus Prime Power of the Primes Designs
The design sketches look better than the final toy, which was likely too complex for the price point. The crew would love a third party to make this Rodimus at a non-Masterpiece size. [Source: TFormers]
Transformers Star Wars Millennium Falcon US Preorders
The new Millennium Falcon splits into Han Solo and Chewbacca figures but is structurally different from the original crossover. One host loves the original and is close to preordering. Other hosts have never bought a Star Wars or Marvel crossover. [Source: TFormers]
Ocular Max Tempus: Unofficial Vortex Test Shots
Ocular Max’s Vortex starts yet another Bruticus, and one host jokes there are enough for a basketball league. The combiner joint is built into the figure, which rules out Scramble City swaps. Diecast might buy it, and Don and Matt are both getting Iron Factory’s Bruticus. The crew wants a Battle Gaia redeco. [Source: TFormers]
Bumblebee Movie: UK Listings Point to a Stryker Codename and a New Studio Series Voyager
Listings from a UK distributor strongly suggest Stryker is Bumblebee’s codename. A new Studio Series Voyager codenamed Destroyer does not match anything known. The crew has little interest in speculating about movie toys. [Source: TFormers]
Mech Planet Hot Soldiers HS-13: Unofficial Legends-Scale Goldbug
Goldbug is Mech Planet’s Bumblebee with a new head, and it includes the Bumblebee head too. A Cliffjumper prototype also surfaced, with a bazooka and reworked engineering that fills the gaps in the back. The crew likes Cliffjumper’s square shape and hopes for a Hubcap. [Source: TFormers]
What’s on TFormers
Rob points to the Power of the Primes character bios added to Transformers.com and Chris’s Legends Windcharger gallery, where a darker helmet makes a big difference. It was also statue day: Imaginarium Art showed a large Nemesis Prime, a smaller 12-inch Optimus Prime and a G1 Jazz, and Prime 1 Studio teased a Jetwing Optimus Prime. There is also a video review and gallery of Movie Masterpiece Barricade.
What We Got This Week
Brian received Movie the Best Laserbeak, the pink Bumblebee mold, and he may keep it boxed. He also finally got Power of the Primes Optimus Prime and Rodimus Prime. Optimus is solid, and Rodimus does not look that phenomenal.
Don finished his Trinity Force set with the last part of TFC’s unofficial Road Caesar. He has said many times that Road Caesar needed an update.
John DeLuna picked up video games this week.
