TakaraTomy had a lot of product launches all at once, among them was the next Movie Masterpiece, Optimus Prime from the Bumblebee movie. MPM-12 is based on the Earth-design for Optimus, like we’ve had already in Studio Series. This version has a high degree of accuracy to the movie design, and comes with a giant rifle, and a G1-style Matrix that was probably never seen in the movie. For reasons surely known only to the engineers at TakaraTomy, the truck mode also has cat ears. Takara also added a photo on their main Transformers site showing that MPM-12 can pull the trailer from MP-44

MPM-12 Optimus is due to come out in October in Japan. This is expected to be another Target exclusive in the US later this year. In the meantime, the Japanese release will set you back ¥20,000 (before tax), though slightly better deals may be found depending on your retailer of choice. In any case, it seems like the end of this year is a good time for fans of this Optimus design, between a Masterpiece and a possible rerelease of the Studio Series toy in the Premium Finish line with much more extensive paint work than the first time around.
