HasLab Deathsaurus Beats Victory Saber and Adds Micromasters
HasLab Deathsaurus funded and finished more than 1,000 backers above Victory Saber. One host sees appeal beyond completing a set, from the kaiju motif to the character’s IDW role. Another figures some fans bought extras to paint as Red Geist. Backers also get two tiny bonus Micromasters. HyperShot says in Discord that they are retools of a Micromaster combiner missile truck, which one host calls a lot of new tooling. [Source: Autobase Aichi]
Super7 Transformers Ultimates Wave 5
Super7’s Ultimates Wave 5 is just two figures, Reformatting Megatron and Fallen Starscream, both recolors. The crew calls the dying Starscream head sculpt a misfire. One host has stopped preordering Ultimates because they go on discount soon after release. Another suspects the recolor waves buy factory time for new molds, since everything Super7 makes has slipped. [Source: Super7]
Rise of the Beasts Mainline Wheeljack and Nightbird
First looks at the non-Studio Series Deluxe Wheeljack and Nightbird have Twitter arguing over Wheeljack’s big goggles. One host says Transformers change, and another expects the goggles to become ears. One host likes the Volkswagen-style van as a toy, if not as Wheeljack. Another finds these mainline designs more interesting than their Studio Series counterparts. The crew notes the same bronze tone across the line. Nightbird earns praise for leaning into her bird theme. [Source: Autobase Aichi]
One host calls Legacy Skyquake amazing, but will wait for a G1-style version. Another expects that version, since every mold carries an alternate head. A Dreadwing redeco is already known. The talk turns to Euro G1 wishes like Skyquake and Snare, Machine Wars and the Turbomasters. [Source: Transformers Botposting (Facebook)]
Transformers: Reactivate Revealed at The Game Awards
Transformers: Reactivate was announced with a trailer during The Game Awards. One host notes the studio’s strong track record, so the gameplay should be solid. Another wishes someone would make a Sunbow-style game played like a season of the cartoon. Others think it looks like a generic mech shooter, but they like that it isn’t set on Cybertron. Classic Heroes Team Starscream
JTPrime posted Classic Heroes Team Starscream. The crew likes it as a Rescue Bots-style take that recalls the Bot Shots Starscream. [Source: TFW2005 boards]
Digital-Only Transformers Beyblades
Hasbro sent a press release for digital-only Transformers Beyblades in an app. One host notes Hasbro sends fewer press releases than it used to, and the crew can’t see who this one is for. [Source: Hasbro on Twitter]
Toy Drive Thanks and the Year in Review
Brian thanks everyone who gave to Elf on a Shelf Warmer, one of the drive’s best years. He previews the coming 2022 year-in-review episode and the predictions show.
What We Got This Week
Rob
Rob got HasLab Victory Saber with no QC problems he can find. He praises solid ratchets, secure combining and a Victory Leo that stands up as a toy on its own. The set convinced him to back Deathsaurus too. From Matt he got Studio Series 86 Wheelie and Minerva, and he likes that Wheelie holds together in vehicle mode.
Don
Don’s Victory Saber has no QC issues, but the sword won’t stay in the hilt, and he calls Victory Leo’s jet mode poor. He got Super7 Ultimates Optimus Prime for $21 and a plain brown box Hades upgrade kit for TFC’s Liokaiser. Mastermind Creations G2 Brawl and G2 Onslaught complete his G2 Bruticus. A price-drop credit went toward an Archcore Mountain Fury. He also got Studio Series Crosshairs and Hot Rod, Crankcase and Pointblank. From Show-Z Store came YES Model’s Patron Saint, an upgrade of Generation Toys’ Defensor. He also thanks Diecast for a Reaction Jazz.
Diecast
Diecast’s Victory Saber has weak gold and some paint splatter but no major QC issues. Hasbro sent him a replacement Heroes Born pack, so he now has a good Alpha Trion and a good Orion Pax.
Chris
Chris got a free Galaxy Shuttle. Walmart was canceling preorders, so he ordered from Hasbro Pulse. The box arrived crushed in the rain, and Hasbro refunded him without a return. The toy is fine, and the new head sells it as its own character. Paladin sent Legacy Pointblank, which locks up solidly as a car. Chris dislikes the arms’ lack of a bicep swivel and plans to try the Nonnef kit.
Brian
Brian’s friend Dusty gave him the Royal Mail Transformers stamp set. His Holiday Optimus Prime arrived without QC issues, and he loves it for being Holiday Optimus Prime. He also got an unlicensed kids’ book on the story of Transformers that cites sources like Screen Rant.
