The Transformers: The Movie DVD is out, and Rattrap007 reviews it on this November 11, 2000 Radio Free Cybertron. John DeLuna’s ATT Buzz covers rumored prototypes for Stealth Cheetor and a Tankor drone, plus a fan effort to give Gigatron 100 modes. Heath from coldhardslag.com’s RFC Market Watch reports G2 Dinobots doubling in value. Brian Kilby also announces next week’s one-year anniversary show and an IRC chat to celebrate.
RFC Special News Bulletin
The Computer reports that Election 2000 has boiled down to partisan whining. Galvatron concedes defeat on behalf of both George W. Bush and Al Gore, then claims victory for himself. Optimus Prime is assumed dead, but the Computer assures listeners he’ll be back in a few issues.
RFC Anniversary and Housekeeping
Next week is RFC’s one-year anniversary show. Brian invites listeners to celebrate in the #RFC channel on DALnet, using mIRC or the Java client at dal.net. He now has a DVD player in his PlayStation 2. He wishes the region lock didn’t stop him from buying the upcoming Japanese G1 DVDs, and he’d like Rhino to put episodes on DVD. He’d also like Takara or Hasbro Interactive to make a new Transformers game for PlayStation 2 or Dreamcast. Listener questions go to brian at tfradio.com.
News
ATT Buzz
John DeLuna says this week beat the past month on alt.toys.transformers, with some real news. He backs Brian Kilby’s crackdown on trolls and asks off-topic posters to use [OT] in their subject lines. [Source: alt.toys.transformers]
Transformers: The Movie DVD Released
The Transformers: The Movie DVD came out Tuesday. John hasn’t bought it yet, but early reviews are fairly positive, with light extras led by a Vince DiCola interview. John jokes that DiCola has nothing besides Transformers and should move on. [Source: alt.toys.transformers]
Rumored Beast Machines Prototypes
Rumors of pictures and prototypes for Stryka, Stealth Cheetor, a second unconfirmed Cheetor and a Tankor tank drone are circulating. So far only the Allspark has discussed them. One rumor gives a Cheetor wheels or big feet like Transmetal 2 Cheetor, which John calls ugly. He isn’t holding his breath, especially with claims that the basic tank drone is as big as Blast Charge. Fans Push Gigatron to 100 Modes
A group of fans in Japan is trying to find 100 different modes for Car Robots Gigatron, and they’re up to about 50 or 60. Fan modes include a manta ray, an alien, a chariot, a dodo, a ninja, an anchor, a hand and a handgun. John says some look better than the official modes and jokes that Takara will release a clear 100-mode Gigatron next year. [Source: not found]
John’s G2 Binge
John is suddenly collecting G2. He picked up mint carded yellow G2 Constructicons Bonecrusher, Scavenger and Scrapper, and notes the unusual G2 bubble that cuts through the card. G2 Silverbolt surprised him with glittery blue metallic plastic that doesn’t show in online photos. The only letdown so far is Autoroller Dirtbag, which he calls a block in both modes despite a neat rolling gimmick.
Toy Review: Transformers: The Movie DVD
Rattrap007 ordered the DVD from 800.com for about $14. He calls the video quality like watching a whole new movie, and it’s the unedited version. His only video complaint is no widescreen. The audio is excellent, with sound effects he never heard on tape. Extras are a ten-minute Vince DiCola interview that mentions BotCon in Fort Wayne and several dozen storyboards. He wanted commentary, toy commercials, trailers and a gallery too. He grades the movie an A, the bonus material a B, and the DVD an A-minus overall.
Trivia
Brian plays a new Name That Clip twice and will link it on the homepage. Answers go to brian at tfradio.com.
RFC Market Watch
Heath from coldhardslag.com, now going by Nightlife, promises to execute Wheelie whenever the Market Watch runs long. The site has an Amazon account, and coldhardslag 3.0 lets visitors comment on admin posts. Lee’s Action Figure News and Toy Review showed no changes this month. ToyFare gave Transformers its own price guide section, and a few Beast Wars figures dropped in value. G2 Series 1 Dinobots jumped: blue Grimlock doubled to $60 sealed, and green Slag went from $35 to $60 sealed. ToyFare is the first guide to list the BotCon 2000 exclusives, Apelinq at $55 sealed and Shokaract at $60 sealed. For Christmas, Heath expects no more than 10 to 15% gains, most likely in BotCon exclusives or G1 Series 3 from 1986.
Brian closes with a promise of a new web host and URL next week, and hopefully the next part of the parody.
