Radio Free Cybertron returns after seven months with an ad-libbed solo show from Brian Kilby. He cancels the promised three-year anniversary show after a hard drive failure wiped most of his RFC data. Brian shares his thoughts on the Transformers Armada toys and on the flame wars over the official Transformers convention. GR Crosscut reviews Transmetal 2 Ramulus, and Brian lays out his plans for the convention in Chicago.
RFC Returns
Brian apologizes for the seven-month gap and the three-year anniversary show that never aired. He lost a hard drive with most of his RFC data and never got back to the show. He had also held off to finish part four of the Transformers: The Movie parody, which remains undone. He calls this episode an on-the-fly show to prove he is still alive.
The Convention Formerly Known as BotCon
The official Transformers convention, formerly called BotCon, has stirred plenty of debate on alt.toys.transformers. Brian mentions the friction between Raksha, Skyflight and some ATT posters, but stays neutral. He thinks the current flame wars feel tame next to the glorious flame fests of the past. He also now rates AllSpark’s discussion quality above ATT’s, though he still reads ATT more.
Armada Toy Thoughts
Brian is only now picking up the Transformers Armada toys, starting with the first wave. He loves Obliterator, finds Hot Shot okay and calls Cyclonus “eh.” Jetfire and the Supercon Optimus Prime are his two favorite toys in the line so far. He also really likes Megatron and is looking forward to Tidal Wave.
Toy Review: Transmetal 2 Ramulus
GR Crosscut submitted this review for the November show that never aired. He says the beast mode looks nice but does little, while the robot mode is very cool and poseable. His advice: skip it if you don’t like how it looks. He recommends it.
Convention Plans
Brian will attend the official Transformers convention in Chicago in about three weeks. He wants to host a roundtable discussion and record the voice actor panel again. Video is unlikely, since he still has no video camera. He plans to arrive at least a day early and asks listeners to email ideas or meet-up requests.
The Future of RFC
Brian expects updates to come quarterly at best, monthly at most. He admits he has lost interest in projects outside work over the past year. He asks for volunteers, especially someone to cover news, and thanks GR Crosscut for his review.
