The first War for Cybertron trailer is out, and Trypticon steals the show for the Radio Free Cybertron crew. This January 13, 2010 episode also covers a pricey domestic release of Transformers USB drives and a possible 3D shoot for Transformers 3. The crew debates the toy line of the decade and agrees on Transformers Armada. Chris McFeely stumps Monzo with a Kiss Players question, and Twitter Theater goes to the GoBots episode War for Gobotron.

War for Cybertron Trailer Debuts
The War for Cybertron trailer is the big news this week. The crew loves how it looks, and Peter Cullen is in it. One host says the models are hit and miss and won’t get excited until he sees gameplay, after being burned by The Force Unleashed. Trypticon’s design wins praise, along with a Guardian raking the ground with its arm gun.
A photo of a possible War for Cybertron toy also surfaced, but nothing confirms a toy line. One host guesses the game will get Universe toys instead. Others note the colored sample is missing a piece seen on an earlier gray prototype. [Source: not found]
Transformers USB Drives Coming to the US at $40
Toshiba will distribute the Transformers device-label toys in the US, at the same $40 price. The crew calls $40 absurd for a domestic Ravage and Tigatron USB drive with only 2 GB. One host jokes about taping a USB stick to a $1 G1 Ravage. They are even less impressed by the corded optical mice. [Source: not found]
Transformers 3 Script Unfinished, 3D Possible
The Transformers 3 script is still being written, and the film may be shot in 3D. The crew debates whether 3D will catch on at home. One host thinks it will be pushed hard but not widely adopted. [Source: not found]
Transformers: Nefarious Announced
Transformers: Nefarious is coming from Simon Furman. The crew jokes about Furmanisms and his recycled ideas, though one host says he still loves rereading Furman’s UK comics. [Source: not found]
This Day in History
Robert Stack, the voice of Ultra Magnus in Transformers: The Movie, was born January 13, 1919. The crew also wishes Wankus a happy birthday on the 15th. They call his BotCon appearance the stuff of legend and say he was the most gracious guest there.
Stump Monzo
Chris McFeely asks Monzo to name the four Kiss Players radio drama episodes packed with the toys. Monzo gets only the first, Someday Under the Sun. The others are Atari’s Close Call, A Big Catch Tonight, and You, I, and the Spinning Earth. Chris McFeely stumps Monzo.
Toy Line of the Decade
A TFormers.com forum topic asks for the toy line of the decade. The crew puts Alternators near the bottom, calling it a handful of designs repeated and frustrating to transform. They say Classics and Henkei do G1 well but don’t innovate. Transformers Animated looks great but the toys are average deluxes.
Energon’s Powerlinx gimmick is judged inferior to Mini-Cons, and Cybertron’s planet keys don’t measure up either. The crew credits Armada with big risks, huge sales and Mini-Cons that shaped later lines. One host calls Armada Megatron one of his all-time favorite toys. For the first time anyone can remember, the crew agrees: Transformers Armada is the toy line of the decade.
Big Bad Toy Store
Brian runs down Big Bad Toy Store’s sale and new pre-orders, including Japanese Transformers Animated, the Encore Metroplex reissue, Revenge of the Fallen Nebula Starscream and the Easy Devastator box set.
Twitter Theater: War for Gobotron
In honor of the War for Cybertron trailer, Twitter Theater is the GoBots episode War for Gobotron. One host compares watching GoBots to Yellow Submarine without the Beatles, and another calls it G1 by Hanna-Barbera. The crew argues that Call of the Primitives looks great but isn’t the classic fans claim. Talk turns to the GoBots movie with the Rock Lords, Machine Robo knockoffs and the Transistor Robots bootlegs.
RFC Notes
Brian asks listeners to take the PodTrac survey. RFC has added a new podcast, Superhero Time, about Power Rangers and Super Sentai and hosted by Exvee. A new RFC Throwback episode is coming, and the RFC message board is now at TFormers.com, with a new snack food forum.
