High Moon Studios and Activision announced Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, the follow-up to War for Cybertron, on this October 12, 2011 Radio Free Cybertron 12th anniversary show. Hasbro also brings a taxi Bumblebee and a pink G1-colored Arcee to New York Comic Con. Brian Kilby, JD Church, Weebo, John DeLuna, LadyWreck and Ender also cover Kre-O, Takara’s next Transformers United wave and Dark of the Moon’s box office. The crew then reviews Transformers Prime’s One Shall Rise Part 2.
News
RFC Turns 12
This week is RFC’s 12th anniversary show, a few days ahead of the actual date on Saturday. Brian calls RFC the original Transformers internet radio show and one of the world’s first podcasts.
New York Comic Con Bumblebee and Arcee Set
Hasbro’s New York Comic Con exclusive Transformers Prime set has a taxicab Bumblebee and a pink G1-colored Arcee, for about $33. The crew likes the Bumblebee, but nearly everyone calls the Arcee awful and not designed for that color scheme. Brian finds most of the Prime toys only okay. [Source: TFormers.com]
Kreons Take Manhattan and Kre-O Previews
Costumed Kreon characters are touring Manhattan for New York Comic Con. Brian loves Kreons and picked up Kre-O Mirage just to get one. He’s thrilled by word from TFCon that Hasbro will sell Kreons separately in 2012. Ender calls the Kreons an actual improvement on the classic Lego figure, and the crew agrees Kre-O is far better than Built to Rule. Preview night images show Kre-O Transformers Prime Cyberverse Megatron, Starscream, Optimus Prime, Bulkhead and Wheeljack. [Source: TFormers.com]
Takara Transformers United Wave
Takara’s next Transformers United releases include Rodimus Convoy, Warpath, Thunder Megatron, Thunderwing, Windcharger with Wipeout, Axalon, Arc Unicron, Optimus Primal and Beast Megatron. Brian wants Thunder Megatron and calls the Windcharger and Wipeout set a must-have at about 3,600 yen. [Source: not found]
Dark of the Moon Becomes the Fourth-Highest-Grossing Film
Dark of the Moon is now the fourth-highest-grossing film of all time, before inflation. Ender argues the ranking means nothing given inflation, 3D pricing and screen counts. Brian says the movie is watchable and has seen it twice in two days. Ender hasn’t seen it and doesn’t plan to. [Source: not found]
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Announced
High Moon Studios and Activision announced Transformers: Fall of Cybertron for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, due in 2012. A screenshot shows a big, bulky Optimus Prime described as a fist with wheels. Weebo says a new engine allows higher-resolution robots and more complex transformations. Ender, who played the War for Cybertron demo, can’t wait for it. Brian admits he has barely played War for Cybertron. [Source: not found]
Transformers Pinball Groupon
A Groupon deal offers the Transformers pinball machine for around $4,500. Brian found the deal wasn’t valid in his state. [Source: not found]
Comic News with LadyWreck
Transformers Classics UK Volume 1 is coming October 25 for about $18 to $19, with extra interviews and research from James Roberts. Infestation 2 brings more zombies to Transformers in February 2012, set in the Hearts of Steel continuity by Chuck Dixon and Guido Guidi. LadyWreck is giving away a copy of Exiles on her Facebook page through October 21. She’s also running a petition asking High Moon for a War for Cybertron concept art book.
Transformers Prime: One Shall Rise Part 2
The crew agrees this was the best of the three parts. Ender likes the scene of the Autobots simply talking with Megatron, and the minimal human involvement. He argues Unicron is the franchise’s shark, the kind of finale story that leaves nowhere to go, and finds the melodrama cheesy. One host dislikes the slow-motion action sequences. The crew can’t stand Miko threatening Megatron, but likes his scenes with Raf and Jack and the closing eye. The chat mostly likes how Unicron is being handled.
From the Chat
John reports the chat laughed at Arcee’s mistransformed press photos, and that Kreons seem more popular than the Kre-O Transformers sets. The crew credits that to fans’ love of super-deformed figures that rarely come to North America.
TFWiki Spotlight: Movieverse Soundwave
With Dark of the Moon out on DVD and Blu-ray, Chris McFeely spotlights movie Soundwave. The article covers his many Japanese toys and Hasbro’s tight control over the character. It also shows how John Barber’s Dark of the Moon comics and the prose story Convergence fill in his history before the third film.
RFC Twitter Theater: Along Came a Spider
In a recorded segment, Rob picks the Transformers Animated Halloween episode, the only Transformers episode he knows set on Halloween. Sari dresses as Optimus Prime, Bumblebee as Dracula and Bulkhead as a ghost, and Blackarachnia debuts.
This Week in Transformers History
JD notes that Carnage in C-Minor aired October 14, 1986, which the crew calls the worst episode of any Transformers series. The planned Beast Machines anniversary discussion moves to next week, since the show debuted the month before RFC.
