TFormers News Desk: Masterpiece Soundwave Gets Laserbeak, MP-14 Is Red Alert
Peter Van and JD Church report that Takara will add Laserbeak to Masterpiece MP-13 Soundwave and name MP-14 as Red Alert. Red Alert, first thought to be MP-12A, uses the Lambor (Sideswipe) mold. With Laserbeak, Soundwave’s price rose from 12,000 yen to 15,800 yen, about $200, per Robot Kingdom. Red Alert stays at 5,800 yen, about $73. Both are due in December. One of them wonders whether Takara will tweak the mold into a Sunstreaker. [Source: TFormers]
TFormers News Desk: Fall of Cybertron at E3
E3 coverage of Fall of Cybertron showed Optimus Prime directing Metroplex, Starscream’s stealth, Vortex and Grimlock. Metroplex shrugs off grenades and lasers, and Starscream can turn invisible to plant bombs. Warpath appears as a supporting character. Mark Bellomo’s 200-page Art of Fall of Cybertron hardcover arrives from IDW in October for $39.99. One of them worries that Grimlock’s combat looks like button mashing and that stealth may frustrate multiplayer. [Source: TFormers]
TFormers News Desk: SDCC 2012 Exclusives
Hasbro showed official images of its San Diego Comic-Con exclusives. They include a Terrorcon Cliffjumper, the canceled First Edition Cliffjumper with more paint, battle damage and a Dark Energon piece. There is also an in-game-colored Bruticus in a giant box, separate from October’s Generations release. A Shockwave H.I.S.S. tank with Decepticon Destro and a B.A.T. follows last year’s Starscream Skystriker. One of them loves the Cliffjumper box and jokes that Hasbro can only sell G.I. Joe by making it Transformers. [Source: TFormers]
TFormers News Desk: Transformers 4 and More
Michael Bay says Transformers 4 will be his last and that he will redesign the robots a bit to set up the next director. Ehren Kruger will write it. They note Bay has said this before. Beast Wars is now on Netflix in full. Rob Clay reviewed Cyberverse Cliffjumper for TFormers, noting hip joint problems. [Source: TFormers]
Comic News With LadyWreck
The More Than Meets the Eye trade is out, with The Death of Optimus Prime, issues 1 to 3, an Alex Milne sketchbook and bonus notes. Guido Guidi is selling ongoing pages on eBay. Livio Ramondelli revealed the cover to Autocracy #12, the final issue. LadyWreck also interviewed Transformers Mosaic creators Josh van Reyk and Sean Knowler on the Underbase.
Review: Autocracy #11
Optimus Prime has the Matrix and Metroplex and hijacks the airwaves through Blaster. He tells Cybertron he serves its citizens, not a corrupt Senate, and calls them to march on the Citadel. Huge crowds march despite Megatron’s Seekers, with the Aerialbots stepping in. LadyWreck loves that Prime’s first move is to put power in the hands of the people he leads.
Review: Robots in Disguise #6
LadyWreck avoids spoilers but praises the continuity payoffs from John Barber and Livio Ramondelli’s art. Orion Pax and some Autobots investigate a transmission, leading to callbacks to the Spotlights and All Hail Megatron Coda. She says it is well paced and expects the story to continue, perhaps in issue 10.
Transformers Rewind: The Fish Test
The crew watches the Robots in Disguise episode in which Sky-Byte takes an online fish personality test and is labeled a jellyfish. He sets out to prove his sharkliness and show up Scourge. Brian calls it his favorite episode of the series and loves Sky-Byte. JD found it painful. The crew credits the dub script with making the show more fun than Car Robots and calls the episode a study in jealousy among the villains. Next week’s Rewind is Transformers Animated’s This Is Why I Hate Machines.
Review: Rescue Bots, Small Blessings
LadyWreck and Nicole review the episode in which one of Doc Greene’s inventions shrinks the Rescue Bots to the size of a fly. Cade’s chasing girls causes a dam problem, Blades becomes the hero and a left-behind Chase breaks their hearts. They say the show has found its rhythm.

Tokyo Toy Show
First real shots of the Masterpiece Soundwave prototype look like one of the best cartoon likenesses in the line. The Laserbeak has integrated jets and guns and is very poseable. Amazon Japan orders include an exclusive Energon Cube accessory. The crew expects Soundwave about a head shorter than MP-10 and hopes for an e-Hobby Marvel version with Ratbat. Masterpiece Red Alert is a slight remold of Sideswipe, and one host dislikes the oversized Autobot symbol. The crew guesses a U.S. Sideswipe will cost about $40.
Transformers Prime figures shown include Voyager Ultra Magnus, reminiscent of the Animated version, and a figure likely to be Thundertron. A Fall of Cybertron Shockwave may join the Armed Micron assortment. Other figures include an uncolored Knockout believed to be Smokescreen, Deluxe Ironhide and Swerve as a Breakdown recolor. The crew mocks the Voyager Unicron as a Digimon nobody cares about. Darkness Megatron gets Dark Energon wings. The crew notes that much of this hasn’t been announced for the U.S.
