eHobby and the Transformers Collectors’ Club are teaming up on a Shattered Glass Soundwave vs. Blaster set, with Slugfest back for the first time since G1. On this September 6, 2012 Radio Free Cybertron, Brian Kilby fills in for Peter Van on the TFormers.com news desk with JD Church. They also cover the G2-themed Transformers Ultimate Gift Set and Year of the Dragon Optimus Prime heading to Toys R Us Canada. Aimee and Nicole review Rescue Bots, and Transformers Rewind, with John DeLuna joining for the first time, takes on Triple Takeover.
G2 Bruticus for Christmas
Brian, Exvee and Rob Clay open with holiday wish lists, and G2 Bruticus arrives around November 19. Brian says the eHobby and Collectors’ Club Shattered Glass collaboration would have been the story of the year in 2003. Now it is one of many, which is why the crew does a weekly show.

Transformers Ultimate Gift Set Images Revealed
Big Bad Toy Store posted images of the G2-themed Transformers Ultimate Gift Set. It was first reported as a Walmart exclusive but now appears to be a mass-market release. It holds Reveal the Shield redecos of Deluxe G2 Optimus Prime and Jazz. Legends Starscream becomes Thundercracker and Legends Optimus Prime becomes Motormaster, both with their weapons. One host is weirded out that G2 Optimus has both a G1 and a G2 Autobot logo. One host loves Optimus Prime as Motormaster, while another is tired of that repaint. Big Bad Toy Store lists the set for about $40. [Source: not found]
First Look at eHobby Shattered Glass Soundwave vs. Blaster
eHobby’s Solar Requiem set pairs Shattered Glass Blaster and Soundwave, built on the Soundblaster mold. It includes Slugfest, Ratbat, Ramhorn and the Rewind and Eject mold, and it will reach U.S. fans through the Collectors’ Club. Brian calls Shattered Glass Blaster flippin’ gorgeous. It sells for 13,900 yen, about $177. Fans first guessed the new cassette was Dial before it was revealed as Slugfest. The set targets a New Year’s release, and Brian knows where his Christmas money is going. [Source: not found]
Mystery Gold Cassette in the Shattered Glass Set
A gold Eject and Rewind repaint floats in the promo art, and the crew isn’t sure it is in the set. One host explains the theory behind it. G2 Go-Bots packaging mock-ups advertised a mail-away Solarbot that only ever existed as a name. The crew would happily take a fifth cassette.
Year of the Dragon Ultimate Optimus Prime Coming to Toys R Us Canada
Amazon picked up the Chinese New Year exclusive Year of the Dragon Ultimate Optimus Prime in the U.S. in June. Now Toys R Us will offer it in Canada. Brian calls it an odd release that means little to U.S. fans. One host thinks the box would display well, but the new colors add little. [Source: not found]
Transformers Subscription Service Ships in January
The Collectors’ Club confirmed its figure subscription service starts shipping in January. JD is selling Ultra Mammoth and Slipstream. He is keeping only figures with new heads or molds he doesn’t have, like Breakdown. [Source: not found]
Spy Changer Molds and Robots in Disguise Nostalgia
The crew likes the Reveal the Shield Motormaster mold and wishes Hasbro would reuse the Robots in Disguise Spy Changer molds. They expect a Robots in Disguise resurgence within five or six years. One host wants Armada back, and nobody wants Energon to return.
Rescue Bots Review: Hot Shots
Aimee and Nicole review episode three, Hot Shots, from February 2012. Doc Greene’s runaway car looks a lot like the DeLorean. Dani asks Doc for a scoop claw, and she and Blades start stealing every rescue. Feeling unappreciated, they head off alone. Lightning strikes Blades, starting a forest fire that traps Dani and Cody. The rest of the team carries them to safety. The reviewers love Blades worrying the claw makes him look fat. They also like the brother-sister moment between Cody and Dani and give it two thumbs up.
Transformers Rewind: Triple Takeover
Starscream, Blitzwing and Astrotrain freeze Megatron, then each Triple Changer sets up his own base. Astrotrain reprograms trains to steal energy and floods the city. Blitzwing seizes a football stadium, drafts the coach and runs over four Autobots. The crew says the episode proves everyone under Megatron is worse at the job. They are surprised by how violent it is. They mock the absolute-zero freezing plan and Trailbreaker lounging on a roof during the flood. They suspect heavy editing made the Autobot scenes feel tacked on.
Transformers Rewind Ahead
Next week’s Rewind is Carnage in C-Minor, which reminds Brian of longtime listener Mop Boy. Heavy Metal War is also recorded, and Exvee is looking forward to Dark Designs. Brian tells Don that Rebirth will come eventually. Rewind episodes are collected in a YouTube playlist.
