News
Angry Birds Transformers Comes to Android
The game is now on Android, and Diecast found the toys at Toys R Us. His Bludgeon and Sentinel Prime two-pack uses a clear Matrix that works as a magnifying glass over a phone’s camera. It reads a tiny code on the figure and unlocks that character in the game. The crew suspects Hasbro is testing the same idea for the scannable Robots in Disguise Autobot symbols. [Source: not found]
Michael Bay Says He Will Not Direct Transformers 5
The crew notes Bay said the same before Transformers 4. One host doubts money is the issue, and the crew expects Bay to stay on as a producer. [Source: not found]
Takara Tomy Age of Extinction Stinger
Takara Tomy will release a Stinger in January. After some confusion over a small photo, the crew settles that it is the Age of Extinction Bumblebee mold with a new head. Rob notes the mold is one that fans like. [Source: not found]
Arcee and Chromia Found at US Retail
Generations Arcee and Chromia are turning up in US stores. The crew puzzles over why Big Bad Toy Store sometimes gets new figures before retail and sometimes after. One host already has Windblade and may wait to open all three together. [Source: not found]
Masterpiece Bumblebee Out-of-Package Photos
Photos of MP-21 Bumblebee with Exo-Suit Spike appear, apparently from an eBay seller and possibly pre-production. The crew notices loose panels and mismatched yellows. One host hopes the mold holds up so more Masterpiece Minibots follow, with repaints like Cliffjumper helping pay for unique molds like Cosmos. The talk turns to whether a Masterpiece Devastator could ever work at retail. [Source: not found]
Third-Party Tracks, Hound and Blurr
Renders show a non-transforming Tracks figure in the style of Revoltech. One host loves Tracks and may buy it anyway, though he wants to see it in color first. A Hound prototype was on display at TFCon. New images show SXS’s G1 Blurr homage, which Rob says was made for him. He only wishes it came with a Targetmaster instead of a large silver gun. KFC’s Not-Blaster in Final Colors
New photos show KFC’s Masterpiece-style not-Blaster in its final metallic red, with comic and cartoon heads. It scales well with Masterpiece Soundwave and costs about $140. One host is tempted and thinks KFC does its best work at a larger size. Another doubts Takara Tomy will ever make a new-mold Masterpiece Blaster. [Source: TFormers]
More from TFormers
TFormers has summaries of Rescue Bots season three, episodes 5 and 6, and news of an IDW Spotlight omnibus for March 2015. It also has a video review of Legends LG-01 Rattle and LG-02 Beast Convoy and a review of the gold MP-05 Megatron. Officially licensed Masterpiece sticker sets are coming, which surprises the crew. Interview: Audio Knights Theater
Ninja Dave, Pete and Andrew Schatz of the Audio Knights Theater make voiced audio dramas for IDW’s More Than Meets the Eye. Their tracks have no narration. Listeners read the comic while the voices, sound effects and music play in sync with each panel. The group started from issue one and is wrapping up issue four, with dramatic readings of current issues in the meantime. One member voices Tailgate and built a long montage for Cyclonus’s war history in issue three. They recruited Chris McFeely after hearing his reading, and they invite fans to audition through crew-ditions on their website.
Listener Mail
The man from Transform Me who told the “which button” story writes in to clarify. He does not cosplay but builds Transformers suits for bar and club costume contests, where the story happened. The crew is glad he set the record straight.
Q&A with Rob Springer
A chat listener asks how to fit more toys in his house without tossing the boxes. Rob’s advice is to flatten the packaging into storage tubs. Another host suggests a climate-controlled storage unit.
This Week in History
Markie Post, the voice of June Darby in Transformers Prime, was born in 1950. Don remembers her best from Night Court. In 2000, Rhino released The Transformers: The Movie Special Collector’s Edition on VHS and DVD, along with VHS volumes 10 through 12. One host bought it on day one but found the colors oversaturated. The crew wants a proper Blu-ray release and wonders if Shout! Factory might do one.
