Remembering Derrick J. Wyatt

Derrick J. Wyatt, the art director behind the look of Transformers Animated, died unexpectedly. Brian says he was a fan as well as a professional, with a big presence in the fandom. One host credits Animated with bringing him back to Transformers after a rough stretch. Another notes that Marty Isenberg ran the show, while Wyatt shaped everything visual about it. 2022 Exclusive Generations Redecos

Autobase Aichi reposted a photo of four upcoming redecos: Silverstreak, Guard, Night Prowler and Buzzsaw. Night Prowler nods to a canceled 2003 Walmart exclusive and uses the regular Cheetor head. Silverstreak, a Diaclone blue Bluestreak, is a Target exclusive. Night Prowler, Buzzsaw and the black Diaclone Ironhide Guard go to fan channel retailers. One host is curious whether Guard’s price will confirm that the Earthrise Ironhide mold is heavier than a deluxe. [Source: Autobase Aichi]

A Titan Class Guardian Robot, a red Grand Maximus cog accessory and Selects Cyclonus in toy deco are also listed. A Hasbro Pulse Legacy set pairs Orion Pax and Alpha Trion, which the crew expects to reuse Kup and Scourge. [Source: TFW2005]

Rise of the Beasts Toy Line Listings Revealed

Listings for the Rise of the Beasts toy line carry an April 1, 2022 date, despite the movie’s delay. Battle Masters include Optimus Primal, Cheetor, Rhinox and a new character, Crescent, per JT Prime. Power Alliance two-packs, Smash Changers, Battle Changers and a deluxe assortment with Mirage, Airazor, Wheeljack and Nightbird round it out. The crew fears the toys will hit shelves long before the movie. JT Prime says the line will fold into Studio Series later. [Source: TFW2005]

What We Got This Week

Chris imported Golden Disk Terrorsaur from Hong Kong after Amazon preorders sold out. It is almost entirely new tooling over the Airazor mold, though the user-installed arm spikes leave stress marks. Its golden disk has deeper detail than the Ark’s. Chris also got Cyberverse Deluxe Cheetor, which arrived crushed but undamaged, and a reissue Beast Wars Cheetor for about $7.

Diecast got Studio Series 86 Hot Rod in new packaging and Studio Series Soundwave. He also got the Fans Toys cassette set, finding the tapes just okay, with Ravage the best of them.

Don got Selects Galvatron for about $35 with reward points and a reissue Beast Wars Cheetor from the Walmart sale. At a West Virginia toy shop he also picked up Selects Tricranius.

Matt got the Hallmark Shockwave ornament, another Studio Series 86 figure, and Golden Disk Puffer and Road Ranger.

Rob got reissue Beast Wars Megatron for $15 from the Walmart sale and enjoys the huge dinosaur mode.

Brian got reissue Beast Wars Cheetor, Optimus Primal, Megatron and Rattrap on Walmart clearance. Rattrap arrived crammed into a smaller box. He also got Transformers wall decals, stickers and tattoos, plus Studio Series Soundwave, which he likes as a figure but finds pricey.
