Legacy Velocitron Leader Two Is Galaxy Shuttle
JT Prime shared photos of the mystery second Velocitron leader, a Galaxy Shuttle redeco of the Astrotrain mold with a new head. The crew had guessed Astrotrain, but nobody had Galaxy Shuttle on their bingo card. Brian loves it and plans to grab one at Walmart Collector Con, which starts the next day. Blackknife in Discord calls it “Jazz in space,” and Brian agrees. Don pitches a deep-cut Thunder Dagwon follow-up. Chris notes Bandai’s purchase of Sunrise muddies who owns the Brave characters. Transformers Cards Come to Magic: The Gathering
Transformers cards will appear randomly in Magic: The Gathering booster packs. The lineup includes Jetfire, Blitzwing, Starscream, Slicer, Cyclonus, Blaster, Arcee, Flamewar, Goldbug, Megatron, Optimus Prime, Soundwave and Ultra Magnus. Most also get Shattered Glass variants. Don recalls a one-off Grimlock card from HasCon. Brian doubts hardcore Magic players want Optimus Prime crashing their game. [Source: Wizards of the Coast]
PulseCon 2022 Reveals Legacy Evolution Wave One
The Core Class Dinobots are a combiner, and Diecast calls them the most controversial reveal. Chris argues the first two figures shown are the weakest because they form the torso, and the crew expects a Dinoking box set eventually. Core Class Soundblaster has a blue chest, a dealbreaker for Brian. Armada Hot Shot stays remarkably close to the original toy, cannon included. Needlenose comes with both Targetmasters and bicep swivels, and the crew rates it well above Pointblank. Chris explains that new cardboard panels in the window boxes are an anti-theft measure. The crew calls Scraphook the best deluxe of PulseCon. Chris loves that its vehicle splits into segments that can swap with other Junkions for Mad Max-style builds. Mark Maher’s Instagram commentary shows its 5mm port play with other toys. [Source: Mark Maher, Instagram]
Lio Convoy and Tarn Round Out the Reveals
Legacy Lio Convoy looks better than the Masterpiece and the original toy, the crew says, and Brian wants a Big Convoy next. Leader Tarn splits the room. Brian finds it the least interesting reveal because he has no connection to the comic character, though he respects the engineering. Manny in Discord notes Tarn also appeared in the Cyberverse finale. Chris says Tarn looks designed in the spirit of G-Axis. Eric Crownover tells the chat these were the best reveals of the year because they felt like love for the whole brand. [Source: Mark Maher, Instagram]
Shattered Glass Soundwave Finally Revealed
Shattered Glass Soundwave uses the Earthrise mold with a remolded head that includes his headband. He comes with two cassettes and a comic. Brian loves it and is getting it. Chris thinks the price is fair for what is in the box. [Source: BWTF]
Transformers Lite-Brite Wall Art
The $100 Lite-Brite uses slim LEDs, runs on a rechargeable battery and hangs on a wall. Its more than 6,000 pegs build one of three designs at a time: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee or the Autobot symbol. Chris calls it an analog way of making pixel art and thinks fans could sell their own patterns. [Source: Hasbro Pulse]
Hasbro Renews Paramount Deal and Holds Investor Day
Transformers and G.I. Joe stay with Paramount, while Hasbro’s other entertainment shifts to eOne. EarthSpark already has a second season approved. An untitled animated Transformers movie is still in development, and Rise of the Beasts continues to be promoted. The strategy promises fewer, bigger, better brands. John shared an article saying investors were underwhelmed by plans to grow operating profit through cost cutting. Brian expects layoffs to be part of that. Don suggests replacing paper instructions with online versions. [Source: TFW2005]
New Collaborative and Selects Listings Surface
GotBot and JTPrime17 found unnamed listings with Canadian prices. They include a $299 CAD Titan Class Selects, which the crew hopes is a blue-and-white Omega Sentinel. There are also a deluxe and a collaborative item priced like a retooled deluxe. [Source: TFW2005]
New Zealand Mint Optimus Prime Silver Coin
The one-ounce silver Optimus Prime coin costs $100 and is not legal tender, so Brian is skipping it. [Source: New Zealand Mint]
threezero MDLX Cliffjumper Teased
threezero’s smaller, less expensive non-transforming MDLX line adds Cliffjumper, essentially a red version of its Bumblebee. [Source: TFW2005]
What We Got This Week
Don
Don bought two Tonkanators, one to open and one to keep in its box, which he calls glorious. He warns that his recent Cyclonus has poor quality control: the hips are loose and his left arm cannot hold weapons.
Matt
Matt’s pickups this week were not Transformers.
Rob
Rob’s pickups this week were not Transformers.
Diecast
Diecast likes Legacy Wheelie and calls it the best animation Wheelie he is likely to get. He also got Shattered Glass Blaster and Fans Toys Hoist. His Tonkanator is staying in the box after reports of legs that will not stay on.
