News
Hasbro launched Hasbro Entertainment, led by three executives from eOne, which it just sold to Lionsgate. Don wondered why Hasbro sold one entertainment company only to start another. Chris guessed the eOne sale may have earned Hasbro a profit, after earlier selling off eOne’s music assets. Diecast would be upset in Lionsgate’s place, but Don said Lionsgate knows how the business works. One host floated a theory that Hasbro could publish its own digital comics. Chris doubted it, noting Hasbro chose Skybound when IDW’s license ended. He expects Hasbro Entertainment to focus on TV and film production for Hasbro brands. [Source: Variety]
Transformers Missing Link Convoy/Optimus Prime Prototype Images: Matrix Chamber
Takara Tomy showed that Missing Link Convoy’s Matrix chamber is removable, leaving a Diaclone-correct cab. The crew loves it. Chris noted a sticker sheet is coming too, including trailer stickers that likely replace molded detail. Some stickers are bonus pieces with no set position, so fans can recreate the original flat stickers. Chris preordered C-01 from Amazon Japan but dreads applying the trailer stickers himself. Super 7 Transformers Ultimates Wave 2 Grimlock, Megatron and Tracks In-Hand Images
Super7 Ultimates wave 2 includes Dinosaur Mode Grimlock, Action Master Tracks and G1 Megatron, plus Bludgeon. Don thinks Tracks looks off, and Chris concluded it is an Action Master sculpt with an animation paint job. Don dislikes that the beam rifle is gray instead of black, but he will keep his order. Grimlock looks good and huge, with a Masterpiece-style accessory load. One host called Bludgeon the loser of the wave, though Chris might buy it at $30 to $35. Megatron’s smirking face drew jokes. John DeLuna noted in the Discord that Super7 had no Transformers at its Power Con booth. [Source: TFW2005]
Mock-Up Found for Cancelled Combiner Wars Technobot Ironclad
Former Fun Publications staffer Jesse Wittenrich shared mock-ups of unused BotCon ideas. One showed an abandoned Hasbro plan for Combiner Wars Computron. A new Technobot would have used the Rook mold with the Brawl head, with Afterburner reduced to a recolored Legends Groove chestplate. Hasbro dropped the plan when it learned Takara was also making Computron. Chris loves the Rook mold and wishes the Brawl-headed Rook had ever been produced. The crew also liked Jesse’s other mock-ups, including a Beast Machines Thrust and Jetstorm. [Source: Seibertron]
Transformers Legacy Evolution Core Class Optimus Prime and Bumblebee 2-Pack In-Hand Images
In-hand photos of the Hasbro Pulse exclusive Core Class Optimus Prime and Bumblebee set show a new trailer that stores everything inside. Optimus needs an extra piece to tow the trailer, and the hitch is weak. One host dislikes the off-color nylon parts. The crew feels the $40 price is too high for what the trailer adds and will wait for a sale. [Source: TFW2005]
Transformers Masterpiece Movie MPM-14 Bonecrusher In-Hand Images
In-hand photos of MPM-14 Bonecrusher look accurate to the first movie. One host, a Masterpiece collector, plans to cancel his preorder. [Source: TFW2005]
Transformers Rise of the Beasts Optimus Prime Voice Changer Helmet by Killerbody
Killerbody’s video shows its Rise of the Beasts Optimus Prime helmet with a battle mask that retracts inside. No price or date has been announced, and Chris expects it to cost hundreds of dollars. [Source: TFW2005]
2024 Legacy and Studio Series Wave Breakdowns
JT Prime’s wave breakdown confirms the first Legacy Universe assortment, which Chris called an eclectic mix. It includes Voyager Animated Optimus Prime, a Leader Optimus Prime, and Deluxes Animated Bumblebee, Rescue Bots Chase, Windblade and a Rock Lord. Beast Wars Silverbolt is not in the first wave. Chris is curious how Animated Optimus Prime will translate to a Generations body. [Source: TFW2005]
What We Got This Week
Chris
Chris got Legacy Crosscut from Amazon Warehouse; it is the Skids mold in silver with a Diaclone head, and he wants the red tires repainted. He also got a loose Legacy Metalhawk for about $20. It barely feels like the Kingdom Cyclonus it was retooled from, and the robot mode nails Metalhawk’s inner robot from Masterforce. He wishes it came with the original’s big rifle.
Don
Don’s pickups this week were mostly off-topic. On topic, he got Gamer Edition Megatron and Cliffjumper, plus Target’s ReAction Megatron and Optimus Primal.
Matt
Matt still loves Studio Series 86 Brawn but lost one of its tiny gap fillers. The Studio Series 86 Death on the Shuttle two-pack drops the clear plastic, and Ironhide’s van mode fits together far better as a result. He is unsure about Prowl’s face sculpt. He also got the Buzzworthy Toe-Line and loves the colors, though the elbow pops off when he turns it.
Rob
Rob’s pickups were off-topic.
Diecast
Diecast got Super7 Ultimates Grimlock, which comes in a huge box. He also got Takara Tomy’s Leader Optimus Primal and the Walmart retro reissue Starscream, which he likes more than expected because it feels as heavy as the G1 toy.
