Takara Tomy makes Missing Link Convoy official, and the crew splits on whether a fully articulated G1 Optimus Prime is worth the price. New photos show Studio Series Ultra Magnus following the movie’s storyboarded transformation. Takara stock photos reveal the JAXA moon rover Optimus Prime and Exo-Suit Noah, and Renegade announces Transformers Robo Rally. In What We Got This Week, Chris and Matt both rave about Studio Series 86 Brawn.
News
Takara Tomy confirmed Missing Link Convoy in a toy-accurate C-01 with trailer and an anime-colored C-02. Several hosts preordered right away. Don passed because he would rather spend the money on something he does not already own. One host said Missing Link should be a one-and-done, while another expects a Starscream next because Seeker molds have endless reuse. The crew agreed Soundwave fits the concept best. The official reveal shows the fists fold into the cab, and all former sticker detail is now sculpted and painted. One host pointed out that Roller keeps launcher pegs even though the launcher is gone. One host said the C-01 price matched his 15,000 yen prediction. [Source: TFW2005]
Studio Series 86 Ultra Magnus Transformation Matches the Movie Storyboards
Hasbro designer Evan Brooks posted new photos of Studio Series 86 Ultra Magnus on Instagram. One host said the transformation seems built to recreate the movie’s storyboarded sequence panel by panel. Another will buy it and thinks a good Generations Ultra Magnus may be his stopping point on new toys. [Source: not found]
Super 7 Transformers Ultimates Wave 2 G1 Bludgeon In-Hand Images
In-hand photos of Super7 Ultimates Bludgeon show the toy-accurate helmet will not seat properly on the toy-accurate skull. One host cancelled his wave 2 preorder. Don hopes the wave drops in price so he can at least match Megatron with his Optimus Prime. [Source: TFW2005]
Studio Series Leader ROTB Optimus Primal In-Hand Images
One host finds the Rise of the Beasts Optimus Primal design bland. The crew decided apparent paint damage is intentional battle damage. Another prefers the chest gimmick on the Hasbro version over the Takara Tomy one. [Source: TFW2005]
New Takara Tomy Pre-Orders for January 2024: Legacy, Studio Series, Masterpiece and BWVS-06
Takara Tomy stock photos show the JAXA moon rover Optimus Prime, BWVS-06 Dinobot vs. Tarantulas and Studio Series Core Exo-Suit Noah. One host is glad the JAXA Optimus is getting a wider release at about $89 instead of $200. Another suggested Amazon Japan gift cards to pay down preorders while the exchange rate is good. The crew likes that Noah’s wing pack detaches as a drone. [Source: TFW2005]
Renegade Game Studios Unveils Transformers Robo Rally and a G.I. Joe Game
Renegade Game Studios announced a Transformers version of Robo Rally. One host joked that what fans really want is The Great Car Rally, the storybook with smiling Optimus Prime. [Source: Renegade Game Studios]
What We Got This Week
Diecast
Diecast got a tiny Dr. Wu Ultra Magnus. He found Dark of the Moon Backfire on eBay because it is a three-wheeler like his own. He also got the Fans Toys Warthog homage, a superb A-10 in vehicle mode whose wing keeps falling off, and it stays in jet mode. He also bought Gamer Edition Megatron, Rhinox and Cliffjumper but has not opened them.
Rob
Rob’s pickups were off-topic.
Don
Don got Core Class Scourge and a second Toxitron Collection Sunstreaker so he can display both modes. He impulse-bought Studio Series Gamer Edition Wheeljack and the Rhinox Gatling gun because Wheeljack rarely gets toys. His other pickups were off-topic.
Chris
Chris got Studio Series 86 Brawn and calls it a real step up from Titans Return. The legs unfold into the car’s sides, like Siege Hound, and the head sculpt is excellent. His only complaints are a loose roof panel on the back and yellow chest paint over green plastic that may chip. He hopes an Outback retool fixes the plastic colors. He also wishes it had a 3mm port for blast effects.
Matt
Matt also got Studio Series 86 Brawn and calls it by far his favorite Deluxe minibot redo. He loves the legs that unfold into the sides of the vehicle. His other pickups were off-topic Marvel Legends.
Brian
Brian got Toxitron and the G2 Laser Cycle, plus the Studio Series 86 Death on the Shuttle two-pack, but has not opened them. His least favorite purchase in ages is Legacy Titan Nemesis: tiny, awful to transform, with arm panels that pop off and will eventually break. He also got a complete G1 Bludgeon Pretender, one more hole filled in his G1 collection.
