Hasbro briefly posted a photo of Titans Return Trypticon on Instagram, and the RFC Mini-cast crew jumped on it before Toy Fair 2017. John DeLuna, Brian, Diecast and Don break down the dinosaur-mode image, debate whether the figure is too faithful to the G1 toy, and revisit the fan poll that picked Trypticon over Scorponok and Omega Supreme. Brian also previews RFC’s live Toy Fair coverage.
Titans Return Trypticon Image Surfaces
John explains that Hasbro posted, then pulled, a photo of Titans Return Trypticon on Instagram the Monday before Toy Fair. Only the dinosaur mode was shown, and it looks very close to the G1 toy, with heavy photo touch-ups. A size estimate of about 19 inches was attributed on air to fellow co-hosts’ measurements, so treat it as a rumor. Brian thinks it looks great, but worries a G1-faithful hunched stance may not be stable without the walking gimmick. He also hopes the Full-Tilt on the chest is real and not molded kibble. Diecast’s first reaction was that it looks built from Legos, thanks to dense surface detail. Don wishes Titans Return Metroplex had looked this good and asks where Trypticon’s Titan Master will be. Too Faithful to G1?
The crew guesses Trypticon may close out Titans Return or open Power of the Primes. John is the holdout: as with Titans Return Six Shot, he wants more photos before he warms to it. He expected the more modern, aggressive look from the fan poll artwork. He hopes ankle tilts seen in an earlier resin leg sample allow both a G1 stance and a modern one. Later, John adds that a longer tail and a wider chest would improve the figure.
Any Regrets From the Fan Vote?
Diecast voted for Trypticon and has no regrets. He notes no third-party company has made a good Trypticon, and he plans to get a third-party Omega Supreme from FansToys. Don voted for Scorponok as a counterpart to Fortress Maximus, but still calls this Trypticon very good-looking. He hopes for a more complex transformation, since Titans Return Fortress Maximus was a letdown for him: floppy, poor posing and no official city mode support. Brian did not vote and is happy, since Scorponok “basically lays down” to transform and Omega Supreme has had other toys. He calls it a big purple, gray and green robot dinosaur he cannot complain about.
What Will TakaraTomy Add?
The crew jokes about what a TakaraTomy version might add: a horn, chrome toes, a Takara-exclusive transforming Full-Tilt, or a sound box with dinosaur noises. Brian notes Trypticon was in Scramble City, and the group agrees Omega Supreme likely has the most name recognition of the three poll candidates.
Toy Fair 2017 Live Coverage
Brian explains RFC’s Toy Fair coverage, which he calls the show’s favorite event of the year. Diecast attends the Hasbro press event and sends photos, video and news, while the crew streams live analysis. Brian says it is their eighth year streaming Toy Fair.
