Nike Megatron Box Set for Calvin Johnson
Nike’s Calvin Johnson “Megatron” box set includes an exclusive Transformers figure, two pairs of sneakers and cleats for about $550. The figure also comes with a special shoe. The crew doubts many people will ever see one. One host notes that Hasbro made a figure for Johnson’s nickname instead of suing over it. Brian would have picked Armada Optimus Prime, then Super Ginrai. Former co-host Hooper X suggested a Masterpiece Primal would need flocked fur. Diecast thinks a Masterpiece Fortress Maximus would be amazing, while others expect it to be small and boring. One host credits Star Saber’s villainous turn in More Than Meets the Eye for the win. Generations Skywarp, Armada Starscream and the Recon Minicon Team
New photos show Generations Skywarp, built on the Fall of Cybertron Starscream mold. Brian thinks Armada Starscream looks scaled down as a Deluxe. The crew is surprised and thrilled by the Recon Minicon team, a three-figure combiner tied to More Than Meets the Eye #22. Even a host who swore off Minicons expects to buy it. Dr. Wu’s DWP-19B warheads add shoulder missiles to Masterpiece Prowl and Bluestreak, with tips chosen by fan vote. At about $15, the crew is sold. One host admits he could not justify $120 or more for Masterpiece Red Alert and ordered a $35 knockoff instead. The crew agrees that collectors have to choose between bills and toys these days. Transformers Rewind: Only Human
Brian and Chris McFeely re-record the Rewind for Only Human, in which a crime boss moves the Autobots’ minds into synthoid bodies. They love the G.I. Joe connections, from the synthoids to an unnamed Cobra Commander. Chris argues the episode needed to be a two-parter, since it never has fun with the Autobots being human. His exception is Springer’s scene on the city street. They also joke about Rodimus and Michelle’s morning after.
Q&A with Rob Springer
Scott Moore of Good Morning Cybertron asks whether fans will someday buy toy designs online and 3D print them at home. Rob notes that toy companies already 3D print their prototypes. He suspects big companies would fight home printing, but says anything is possible.
