Comic-Con International released a statement today with sad, but not unexpected news.
Despite initial optimism that the situation with COVID-19 would have been improved by this summer, Comic-Con International, the organizers of San Diego Comic Con and other events, announced today that SDCC 2020 was officially cancelled. SDCC is now scheduled to return on July 22nd, 2021.
Although the specific formats will absolutely be different, this will probably change little about the product reveals we’ll receive this summer, with Hasbro being likely to adapt their planned product debuts to alternate channels. SDCC exclusives even still have a good chance of happening, though of course only as online exclusives on Hasbro Pulse. The direct impact to the Transformers community may be relatively small as a result of this, but it will undoubtedly have a greater effect in other areas. As of now, we can only hope that it will be safe for New York Comic Con to proceed as planned.
