IDW Announces a New Beast Wars Comic Series
IDW’s Future of Comics Today panel announced a new Beast Wars series. Brian thinks a well-done Beast Wars comic could be fun. One host doubts anyone can recapture the show’s spirit. Another notes IDW’s G1 comics were never really G1 and were often better for it. One host would welcome new or obscure characters in the same premise. [Source: TFormers]
Action Toys Ultimetal Megatron Images
First announced in 2014, the 17-inch Ultimetal Megatron is getting closer. It does not transform and costs about $879, closer to $950 with tax. Diecast saw an Ultimetal Optimus Prime at a dealer booth but would only spend that on vintage. Don says many fans now accept non-transforming figures with a strong likeness. The crew agrees the face has a soul, just not Megatron’s. [Source: TFormers]
New HasLab Unicron Prototype Photos
Unicron.com posted gray prototype photos of HasLab Unicron. Diecast says the sculpted detail looks amazing, and the hand shots give a sense of scale. The crew notes paint may mute some detail. [Source: Unicron.com, Facebook]
Sam’s Forge Plans G1 Unicron Prototype Print Files
Sam’s Forge plans STL files to 3D print the G1 Unicron prototype at any scale. Brian says it is a multi-week hobbyist project, not a toy you buy. Don asks whether factories will ever 3D print figures for sale, and the crew doubts it is practical. [Source: not found]
Movie Masterpiece Reveal Coming Monday
Hasbro’s Taobao store will reveal a new Movie Masterpiece on Monday. Chris says the leading guess is Ratchet. He would rather see a triple-changing Dropkick or Shatter to justify the price. [Source: not found]
01 Studio Teases Its Unicron
Diecast reports that 01 Studio, formerly Zeta, teased its Corestar Unicron. The photo shows it looking out a window like the HasLab Unicron shots, with a ‘coming soon’ note. [Source: not found]
What We Got This Week
Chris
Chris finally saw Earthrise in a store, on a Walmart endcap in late May. He got the Netflix War for Cybertron Mirage, whose blue-gray is better than photos showed. He likes that this version is all opaque plastic. He also assembled his Nonnef diorama panels. They bow a little, so he plans to mount them on foam board.
Diecast
Diecast got his first ReAction figure, G1 Skyfire, and is keeping it carded. It prompted him to order ReAction Optimus Prime. He also got a second DNA Design upgrade kit for Power of the Primes Predaking from Big Bad Toy Store. His first copy had two of the same wing.
Matt
Matt got nothing this week.
Rob
Rob bought a Malaysian DVD set of the Headmasters, Masterforce and Victory anime with the English dub and subtitles. Seven or eight episodes into Masterforce, he finds it a generic mid-1980s kids show so far. He watches the dub with subtitles on to compare.
Brian
Brian completed his camera team with three Netflix Scrapfaces, which he prefers to Siege Refraktor. He finished Piranacon but finds it floppy and unable to use the sixth Seacon as a gun. He found the new Cyberverse deluxes Hot Rod and Grimlock and thinks both fall short of wave one. He also got Siege Nemesis Prime, which is pretty, though he is ‘Nemesis Primed out.’
Don
Don got Cyberverse Grimlock for its robot mode and passed on Hot Rod. After handling the Netflix Mirage, he tracked down a clear Mirage on the same mold on eBay. His China package brought X-Transbots Argos, their Beachcomber, and a third-party Warpath for about $35. His big buy is Fans Toys Grinder for about $250 shipped, well under eBay asking prices, so his Dinobots match in scale.
Applied Donanomics
Brian asks Don whether to sell his extras on Twitter or eBay. Don says to use every channel, but eBay gives a seller the most protection despite the fees. The crew pitches an Applied Donanomics segment for It’s a Don Deal.
