Remarkably we got a ton of legitimate first looks at upcoming toys before the leakers could get to them!
First, the teased Robosen reveal was not a Bumblebee – I guess that was a bit of an April Fools – but instead a trailer and Roller is being released for Robosen’s Optimus Prime. And it costs just as much as Optimus Prime did, while seemingly doing notably less.
Legacy’s reveals included Deluxes Elita 1, Tarantulas, Knock Out, and Wild Rider. Elita 1 is known to be a “pretool” for Minerva, who is due to be a Walgreens exclusive late this year. Knock Out is a retool or “partial” of Studio Series Jazz with many new parts, and Tarantulas replicates Blackarachnia’s engineering, but with entirely new parts.
Voyagers begin with the baffling choice to rerelease Siege Soundwave. Though like Legacy’s release of Kingdom Galvatron, this instance is without any battle damage deco. No clear reason has presented itself for why this iteration would be chosen rather than the much more in-demand Earth-form Soundwave. In any case, joining Soundwave in the assortment is Jhiaxus, which is finally properly accurate to the G2 comics in colors, general form, and even a face sculpt drawing heavily from the comic art.
Leader Blitzwing was leaked a while ago, unfortunately, but Commander Motormaster was a first look, giving us a lot of details about how both it and Menasor will work. Menasor is indeed a body frame made from Motormaster’s trailer which all the Stunticons plug in to. Menasor’s height was not clearly indicated, but Motormaster’s robot mode was comparable in size with Earthrise Optimus Prime.
A nice bonus reveal at the end was the debut of the second series of Shattered Glass toys, the first of which is Ultra Magnus, based on the Earthrise Leader toy. Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus follows suit from the original Botcon 2012 toy in being decoed based on Diaclone Powered Convoy, and featuring a skull-like face sculpt. However, this will not dash your dreams of a generations Powered Convoy/Delta Magnus! The regular Ultra Magnus head is being included too, and you’ll be able to take them apart and switch them if you want some Diaclone goodness in place of more Shattered Glass. It’s genuinely the best outcome we could have wished for with this release.
