Transformers Tuesday this week brought us a new, unspoiled reveal somehow! NEST Bumblebee – or Bumblbebee as the box mockup now infamously declares it – is a redeco of the Jeep Bumblebee from the Bumblebee Movie, in mostly greys with the NEST logo most widely seen in association with Dark of The Moon. Which is to say, a combination of form, deco, and affiliation that never remotely occurred on screen. So what gives?
That had many confused at first, and while it’s certainly not the first Studio Series item that’s not strictly an on-screen character or variation (the Thundercracker retool of Nitro Zeus springs to mind, for one) it still seemed a bit peculiar. But we might have a better idea about what’s going on here now. Anthony from TFU.info tweeted after the reveal noting his understanding that NEST Bumblebee was at one point intended to be another Universal Studios exclusive item. Most recently Universal had a Studio Series Megatron that was redecoed to resemble the mascot costume that became very popular at Transformers The Ride. Bumblebee might not have something like that to back it up, but it does make more sense if the theme park’s store was the original destination for it. As it stands, NEST Bumblebee is now destined for wider retail horizons sometime in 2022, going by the preorder date currently on Hasbro Pulse.
