During SDCC, Hasbro teased reveals of Legacy Wave 3, advising us to look for a livestream in mid-August to get the “real” reveal with alt modes and accessories. Apparently that timing didn’t entirely work for TakaraTomy, who went ahead and showed off full stock photos for Pointblank (Blanker) and Dead End this week.
For Dead End, the takeaway here is seeing the accessories, a pair of small pistols, and the car mode. But the car itself looks to be rather noteworthy. Based on the photos as presented, it seems very much like Dead End may have foregone clear plastic car shell elements, and instead representing the car’s windows with black paint. If true this will be welcomed by many who have been begging for a move away from huge chunks of transparent plastics. For others, this will be seen as The Worst Thing Ever. But since the windows are gloss black, they look perfectly fine as dark tinted windows, so it’s hard to argue the appearance of the vehicle mode has been harmed in any way by this choice.
For Pointblank, we get to see the vehicle mode for the first time, plus our first look at the Targetmaster in full. It may be disappointing to learn that the Targetmaster is functionally a brand new G1 Targetmaster figure, right down to immovable arms. The transformation is virtually identical as well. We’d known previously it would have two steps in transformation, and we now can identify that those steps are “bend in half” and “unfold the gun barrel.” Whether aftermarket options will present themselves to provide a poseable partner figure, or the chunk of car that originally made Pointblank’s shield to help complete the toy a bit, only time will tell.
TakaraTomy expects to deliver these toys starting in January of 2023, which is a good indicator that we might expect to see them around November in the US.
Meanwhile, we should see more of these as well as the remaining toys in wave 3 in a Transformers Tuesday stream on August 16th.
