The Fourth Masterpiece City: MP-53+B Dia Burn Out
Burnout, who began as a 2015 BotCon character, becomes the fourth Masterpiece on the Honda City mold as a Turbo variant. US sellers list it at $74.99, while Skids, Crosscut and Reboost still sit at $89.99. Brian preordered it and loves the mold. Don already has Reboost and X-Transbots Savant and is on the fence. It does not ship until next summer.
MPM-10R Revenge of the Fallen Starscream Announced
TakaraTomy’s MPM-10R is a Revenge of the Fallen deco of Movie Masterpiece Starscream. Chris is not interested, and Diecast prefers the cleaner deco of the first release. Don would rather see a metallic green version. [Source: TakaraTomy Mall]
Canon Collaboration Optimus Prime and Reflector
Canon and TakaraTomy revealed Canon EOS R5 cameras that transform into Optimus Prime and Reflector. The two share nearly all their parts, with different heads, paint and accessories. Chris expects some parts forming, since the lens comes off. Don’s jaw drops at the price, and the crew pitches a Soundwave with floppy-disk cassettes.
First Full Reveal of Legacy Pointblank and Dead End
Dead End looks great in vehicle mode and seems to skip clear plastic entirely. Pointblank uses blue clear windows that should be white, plus an animation-style Rebirth head. His Targetmaster looks like a new G1 Targetmaster. Don calls Pointblank his favorite Targetmaster but misses his car spoiler.
Studio Series 86 Ironhide In Hand
In-hand photos show a new Voyager Studio Series 86 Ironhide, not a retool of Earthrise Ironhide. The crew likes it but dislikes the clear plastic painted red, which does not match the red plastic. Chris misses the yellow side stripes and mocked up a fix. Diecast notes it needs no parts forming. [Source: Autobase Aichi]
Jada Transformers Metalfigs Take Two
A Walmart exclusive second set of Jada Transformers metal minis includes a Black Convoy or Scourge, Acid Storm and Hotlink. The crew cannot identify every figure, though one may be a Mirage. [Source: Seibertron.com]
What We Got This Week
Chris
Chris got all of Walmart’s Velocitron collection. Road Rocket’s new head sculpt and solid build impress him. His Burnout has loose joints. Clampdown is a straight redeco. He loves Blurr’s IDW head and colors. Cosmos is the standout, chunky and solid despite fewer mold tools. Road Hauler is a bright green Grapple with tolerance issues. Override looks great but feels like a big Deluxe at a Voyager price. He also got Targetmaster Cyclonus from Entertainment Earth, with a weak arm and a discolored joint. Clearance finds were a reissue Scorponok, Cyberverse Starscream for its blast effects and two Studio Series Sweeps. From Blade he got a Robots in Disguise Stormshot and a Titans Return Wingspan.
Brian
Brian cancelled most of his preorders, but a Pulse Sludge got through. Pulse let him keep the damaged box, so now he has one for each mode. He got Diaclone Twin Twist, Wreck ‘N Rule Springer, Studio Series 86 Arcee and Legacy Bumblebee with a Micromaster playset. Amazon sent a resealed Legacy Bulkhead instead of Prime Universe Bulkhead, so a replacement is coming. His big buy is a boxed vintage Go-Shooter from ArtFire2000. Diecast also found a duplicated left-hand piece on Brian’s Unicron, and Brian has contacted Hasbro Pulse.
Diecast
Diecast pulled Velocitron Scourge from an unopened Walmart shipping carton. He likes the deco better than Black Convoy’s. He also got Cosmos.
Don
Don got Velocitron Cosmos from Pulse and loves it. He also got Velocitron Burnout and Blurr, a metallic blue G2-style figure on the Earthrise Mirage mold, and Movie Masterpiece Blackout.
Rob
Rob got Leadfoot with Masterdominus. Leadfoot’s metallic deco is the star, while Masterdominus has fit issues.
Matt
Matt found Velocitron Cosmos on a back shelf at Walmart and loves him, though the head plate was stuck. He also got Clampdown, Road Rocket, Burnout, Red Cog and Diaclone Twin Twist. He loves Legacy Motormaster so much that it is leading his toy of the year.
