Well, some of it, anyway.
Through IGN, Hasbro has made the first official reveals of some of Kingdom’s second wave. Today we got to see detailed stock photos for three toys from the upcoming assortments.
From the Deluxes is Airazor, who seems to be widely regarded as the best in show from today’s revealed toys. The robot mode has the entirety of the bird wings as a backpack, which might sound bad at first, but they’re shown being able to compress significantly to become more of a cape. It’s not as tidy and compact as the original TV show model, but it looks very good as something that has to obey the laws of physics. The wings are also very poseable for the beast mode, allowing the falcon to achieve some pretty natural looking poses – which might help to distract from the amount of fairly obvious robot elements that remain visible.
From the second Voyager assortment, we get to see a really good look at Dinobot! The designers clearly prioritized the robot mode, resulting in an appearance surprisingly accurate to the media. It had been questioned since the Safety Korea image and the leak of Dinobot’s box front whether the toy would come with the character’s signature sword, and these stock photos show that in fact it does. Although it’s inexplicably shown being purple here, it’s still good to see it represented. The beast mode is shown sparingly, and strategically angled, seemingly to downplay how the robot legs hang under the body. It seems like some color layout changes happened between the CAD render stage and the production sample that was photographed; the model had more of the legs in brown or tan to blend better with the dinosaur skin, while the photographed sample uses copper for some of those parts.
Finally, there’s Ultra Magnus, making up half of the leader assortment for wave 2. We presume Beast Wars Megatron will reship along side it. Ultra Magnus is a retool of Siege Ultra Magnus, changing the shape of some of the armor, and heavily reworking how the trailer forms in truck mode. The results of this effort seem mixed, especially in how the cab was changed to look more like a generic cab-over-engine semicab without actually reengineering it. There’s also some mistransformations evident, so the actual result might be a little better than what’s seen here.
This was a bit of a random batch to do reveals for, and especially being run through IGN without having some other reveal event announced in advance. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we get to have a good look at the rest of wave 2. Just hopefully not through leaks.
